Cryptids / Cryptozoology On
this page, I discuss 'bigfoot' and lake monsters. Those are my two
favorites. I'm not a big believer in the chupacabra, but I do not
dismiss it either. I think that people who are so proud as to
think that we've discovered every species of animal on this planet are
severely self-deluded. It is a big planet. And there are
still some 'wild' places, remote places, largely undiscovered places,
where cryptids may exist. I am fascinated by the 'rods', for I
believe I have actually seen one with my naked eye, but I don't have
time to delve into that right now. I'm too busy worrying about
2012. |
Cryptids are animals that are hidden from science. Generally, they are
purported to exist, there having been some alleged sightings, but science has
not been able to confirm their existence.
ETYMOLOGY of 'CRYPTOZOOLOGY'
The word: 'Cryptozoology' is composed of three morphemes...
- crypto (hidden)
- zoo (animal)
- logy (study)
Some examples of cryptids are: bigfoot, sasquatch, yeti, skunk ape, chupacabras, sea serpents, lake
dragons/serpents, loch ness monster, and carnivorous kangaroos.
I personally am most fascinated with the bigfoot (sasquatch) and lake dragon cryptids.
BIGFOOT
Gigantipithicus = Bigfoot? Sasquatch? Skunk Ape? Sounds plausible to me!
OTHER NAME: yeti
HABITAT: except for the skunk ape, they've only been sighted in high
mountain ranges; always, far, far away from human habitats. They seem to
dislike humans, (and probably for very good reason).
HABITS: in nearly all (but not all) reports of sightings (where the people lived to
tell about it), the bigfoot creatures simply ran away and hid. They are
clearly stronger than humans, yet they seem to be afraid of us.
My question: How come there isn't any more evidence of the creature
than a few photos and a jawbone? How come no other bones have been found?

LAKE MONSTERS
 |
| The best, and apparently most comprehensive collection
of lake monster sightings is on the following website: http://www.lakedragons.livingdinos.com/
Here is another excellent collection of anecdotal evidence:
http://theshadowlands.net/serpent.htm
I encourage you to check it out!
My personal favorite lake monster is the Tianchi Lake monster.
Tianchi Lake is in a very high volcanic crater on the border between
China [Manchuria] and North Korea. See next photo display: |
 |
| Photographic evidence is lacking, but eye-witness
accounts are very convincing. Here, have a read:
“I went atop the southern slope of the mountain with two local guides at 5:05 a.m. hoping to shoot the sunrise,” he said. “I was not able to do that because it was cloudy.”
By 5:26 a.m. the sunglow had presented a clear view of the Tianchi Lake at the foot of the mountain. “Du Baiqing, one of the guides, suddenly pointed to the lake, yelling in amazement that a stone had emerged from nowhere”, Zhuo told Xinhua.
Zhuo said he had seen the six seal-like, finned creatures swimming and frolicking in the lake for an hour and a half, before they were out of sight at 7:00 a.m. He kept shooting on and off, fearing he might run out of tape and miss the most exciting moment.
“They could swim as fast as yachts and at times they would all disappear in the water. It was impressive to see them all acting at exactly the same pace, as if someone was giving orders,” he said. “Their fins — or maybe wings — were longer than their bodies.”
Zhuo said he didn’t use to believe any lake monster legend. “But I believed my own eyes.”
Rumors that the 373-meter-deep volcanic lake harbors some sort of monster have been circulating for more than a century.
The Tianchi monster is not the only “Nessie” said to be living in China.
Kanasi lake, China’s deepest alpine lake in northwestern Xinjiang region, reputedly has mysterious creatures that devour livestock live.
|
| How can these creatures exist?
While all the lake 'monsters' are very exciting, there are 3 others
that are particularly exciting to me. They are: The Loch
Ness monster, Ogopogo, and Mokele MbeMbe.
My personal belief is that such creatures can exist and can have
escaped capture (or hard scientific evidence). Here is my theory.
The Great Deluge, attested to by every ancient historical account and
geological evidence, did in fact occur, covering most of the
earth. When the waters receded, the large, air-breathing,
water-reptiles, which had to remain near the surface to breathe, got
trapped in the lakes that were left in craters as the waters
receded. These creatures account for the many local legends of
monsters that have purportedly ravaged towns and livestock.
Food for thought. |
